Thoughts from CMLeaders conference

I just got back from the very first CMLeaders conference, put on by INCM (International Network of Children’s Ministry).  It was a GREAT experience.  As expected, the quality of speakers was top-notch.  I walk away challenged to not only be a better leader, but a better follower as well.  I have just started to review and begin to process my 25 pages of notes.

The structure of the conference was great.  There were no breakout sessions, only large group ‘TEDTalk’ style sessions.  This was nice because I did not have to worry about choosing the wrong session or wondering what I would miss out on in the break out group I didn’t go to.

Over the 2 days we heard several different perspectives on what it means to be a good leader and how to be a better leader, all specifically relating to children’s ministry.  The conference was broken into three distinct sections, each with several speakers.

As a leader what does it mean to:

  • Develop
  1. walking in faith
  2. developing yourself
  3. developing others
  • Lead
  1. casting vision
  2. creating a strategy
  3. navigating change
  • disciple
  1. identify and disciple leaders
  2. train them to serve
  3. release them to lead

I will continue to post as I have time to process my thoughts and posts.

Were you there?  What did you think?  Even if you weren’t there, what are you doing to develop and sharpen your leadership skills?
