Gardening Tips for Life pt 4: Dad teach me about…..

Gardening tips for life pt 4

Psalm 32:8
I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go;
I will counsel you and watch over you.

This series has gone so well and has gotten so much feedback, I decided to continue it.

Now that the garden is planted, I like to spend time looking at the plants.  Each day in the afternoon I go out with my daughter to look at the garden.  The garden is our special thing.  We look though the plants, pick weeds that we see, look for evidence of bugs and bunnies, and hope for new blooms.  She even picked out a few plants on her own, and has some planted in her special pots.  It is a great hobby to share with her.

Last week while we were planting tomatoes, I mentioned that tomatoes grew on a vine, and the branches that touched the ground could grow roots and the plant would spread.  She sat and soaked in the information.

A while after we planted the tomatoes, we were planting her corn plants that she chose.  As we were digging the hole and placing the plant, she looked at me and asked, “Dad, can you teach me about corn?”  It was one of the sweetest questions.  She was enjoying working in the garden, and knew that I could teach her something.

A few days later, while we were looking at the plants, she asked again. “Dad, can you teach me about peppers?”

That made me think.  As a dad, I want to spend time with her.  I want to teach her.  I want her to want to be with me, and I want her to learn from me.  It is awesome that she likes to be with me and that she asks me things.

I want to be there for her, the same way God is there for me.

He likes to spend time with me.  He likes to teach me things.  He wants me to make the choice to be with him, and to ask him questions.

James 1:5
If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.
Do you have that special activity that builds a relationship with your child?  What about with God?  When was the last time you took a minute to have a teachable moment with your kids? When was the last time you asked God to teach you about something?

Isaiah 2:3
He will teach us his ways, so that we may walk in his paths.

Matthew 7:7
Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.
