God has a plan, you have a choice

God has a plan, and you have a choice.  Often that plan is something bigger than we can do on our own.  Don’t believe it?  Just ask Moses when he was standing on the bank of the Red Sea.  Or Noah when he was swinging a hammer.  What would Elijah say if you asked him about facing 450 false prophets.

God had a plan for Gideon to lead an army of only 300.

God had a plan for Joshua to march around Jericho.

God has a plan for you to ___________________.

Can you fill in the blank?  How would your sentence end?  Your sentence probably ends with something bigger than you could do on your own

Not that we are competent in ourselves to claim anything for ourselves, but our competence comes from God.  2 Cor 3:5

If you can’t fill in the blank right now, that’s ok, just ask God what his plan is for your life.  I promise you he has one.  And he wants you to know, and he will tell you.

There is a good chance you already know some of what his plan is for you.  And since it is more than you can do yourself, you have a choice.  Are you going to listen to God or not?  When you hear God, you have a choice.  You either listen or you don’t.  There is no other option.  What you decide tells what you believe.  Sometimes what you hear from God is not what you want to hear.  Sometimes action will be required.

Gen 15:2-5       ² But Abram said, “Sovereign LORD, what can you give me since I remain childless and the one who will inherit^[c] my estate is Eliezer of Damascus?” ³ And Abram said, “You have given me no children; so a servant in my household will be my heir.”  ⁴ Then the word of the LORD came to him: “This man will not be your heir, but a son who is your own flesh and blood will be your heir.” ⁵ He took him outside and said, “Look up at the sky and count the stars—if indeed you can count them.” Then he said to him, “So shall your offspring^[d] be.”

God told Abram that he would be the father of a great nation, that his descendants would be as numerous as the stars in the sky.  10 years later, Sarai still had not given birth to a child.  She was barren and believed she would never be able to give Abram a child.

So after waiting 10 years, Sarai took it upon herself to make God’s plan happen.    Because of her lack of belief, she came up with a plan to make sure Abram had a child to fulfill God’s promise.  She took her maidservant Hagar and gave her to her husband so that Hagar could give him a child.  Hagar gave birth to Abram’s son Ishmael.   The only think I can think is Sarai did not believe God could use her.

After 25 years from the time God had told Abram, Sarah became pregnant and gave her husband the child that God told them about.  (Gen 21)  They named him Isaac which means laughter, or he will laugh, because Sarah laughed when she heard God would allow her to have a child.

Sarai’s impatience showed what she believed about the promises God spoke to them.  She did not believe she could give birth.  She did not believe God could use her to fulfill his plan.

You have a choice.  What do you believe about what God has told you?  Are you going to allow God to use you to accomplish his plan?  Or are you going to let your unbelief get in the way?
